Creating writing style guidelines, posting policies, and other essentials Edit
Hello, all! I just discovered this wiki in the past couple of weeks, probably thanks to the sudden explosion of content (and with the amazing finish of Space Battleship Yamato 2199, the reason for it isn't a mystery!). But after exploring a bit, I couldn't find any style guides, policies for posting and revising, or much else that would give the wiki a framework that will help maintain high writing standards and give it all some consistency--and resolve conflicts, if necessary. Some of the best science fiction wikis out there (I'm thinking about the Battlestar Wiki, Memory Alpha, and--if current trends hold up--the Babylon 5 Wiki) have very clear and detailed guidelines. They tend to be very similar across wikis, so we wouldn't have to create everything from scratch. Since the Space Battleship Yamato Wiki has just started a growth spurt, this might be the ideal time to begin thinking about it.
- Hello! Well, guidelines is a good idea, but I think it should be taken slowly and user-friendly. I oversee a few wikis and, though not as populated as the wiki you said up there, I find it very helpful if the guidelines are expressed through admin-to-user connection so it don't get too rigid. In addition, despite some hard core fans of Yamato, it doesn't reach the Western world that easily. The Japanese, on the other hand, may have to set up a guideline to get everybody on the same track. I notice that you mentioned getting a guideline from a different wiki; while it may be helpful, original standards may help us be more or less user pleasing, as it is flexible and not getting the user to think that this wiki is the same mindset at the other wikis.
