Plot[]

For more details, see List of Space Battleship Yamato 2202 episodes and individual episode summaries.

In the year 2202, Earth is a living blue planet and humanity continues to rebuild, thanks to the crew of the space battleship Yamato and the gift of the Cosmo Reverse System made by Queen Starsha Iscandar. A promise of peace was made to Queen Starsha for that gift, but the Earth Federation has pursued militarization and the construction of more advanced and powerful battleships, starting with Andromeda. The crew of Yamato have maintained the bonds of camaraderie, friendship, and love that were built during their long voyage to Iscandar, despite everything that has happened since.

Outside the Milky Way Galaxy, the Gatlantis Empire poses a new threat, one that is growing ever stronger and is advancing toward the solar system. Earth and the Great Garmillas Empire form a joint task force to fight back the Gatlantean invasion, but they succeed only by paying a very high price. On the planet Terezart, a being known as Teresa sends out a psychic energy wave, promising an immense new power and urging the one-time crew members of Yamato to prepare for a new journey[3][4][5] (Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love episode 1, "Yamato 2202 From Yamato with Love" promotional video).

In addition to many returning characters from Space Battleship Yamato 2199, United Nations Cosmo Marine sergeant Hajime Saito and Gatlantis prime minister Shifual Saberah, who were first introduced in Odyssey of the Celestial Ark, will have roles in the series. Alien characters debuting in Yamato 2202 include Teresa, Gatlantean emperor Zworder, Garmillan ambassador to Earth Loren Burrel and military attaché Klaus Keyman , and at least two other Garmillans working alongside the leadership of the United Nations Cosmo Force[6][7][8] (Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love episode 1).

Behind the Scenes[]

The film series was first teased by producer Shoji Nishizaki in the Yamato Crew Report Magazine, stating that production of the sequel is in development. But added that it wasn't yet greenlighted[9]. The first teaser of the film series was revealed on March 31, 2016 with an illustration by Makoto Kobayashi. It was later confirmed that director Nobuyoshi Habara, best known for the Fafner in the Azure anime and Fukui Harutoshi, the author of the Novel series Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn will both direct and write the film series. Later on, the first teaser video of the film series was released.

Bandai Visual then later confirmed that the film will be released in both theaters in Japan as well as in several video streaming services in a limited basis. In December 2016, the official website confirmed that Kenjiro Tsuda will replace Keiji Fujiwara as Isami Enomoto while Hiroshi Kamiya and Masaki Terasoma were added as part of the cast[10]. It soon followed with Sayaka Kanda as the voice of Teresa alongside a new 30 second trailer[11]. Bandai Visual later released a special trailer of the film with the song "From Yamato with Love" and followed with the 12-minute preview stream of the first chapter.[12]

The second film was released on June 24, 2017[13] the third released on October 14, 2017[14], while the fourth film is released on January 27, 2018. The fifth film was released on May 25, 2018[15]; the sixth film on November 2, 2018[16] and the seventh and final film was released on March 1, 2019[17].

As with the first series, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, Voyager Entertainment and Funimation both licensed the series in North American territories, which commenced weekly streaming with an English-dubbed version (via Funimation) and an English Subtitled version (via Crunchyroll) on May 9, 2018.[18]
