In August, 1974, a 9-minute pilot was produced for Space Battleship Yamato.[1]

Narrated by Goro Naya, it conveyed the basic plot of the anime. Some of the scenes were used in the actual anime, but some were not.

The music was not Hiroshi Miyagawa's. There were three music tracks. The first is believed to originate from either The Thomas Crown Affair or The Getaway. The second from a detective drama. And the third is Eumir Deodato's Also Sprach Zarathustra. It was released on the Laserdisc release, but on the DVD the audio has been muted.
